Supporting campers with ADHD: a camp experience where every child belongs

Table of Contents

For many families, choosing a summer camp is an exciting decision. But for parents of children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), it can also bring uncertainty.

However, at My Spanish Camps, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a meaningful summer experience. Children with ADHD are not defined by their challenges; they are curious, energetic, creative, and often thrive in dynamic environments where they can explore, move, and connect with others.

Our mission is to create a space where all campers feel welcomed, understood, and supported so they can enjoy the adventure of camp with confidence.

A team prepared to support every child

One of the most important factors when welcoming campers with ADHD is having the right team.

At My Spanish Camps, our staff is specifically trained to work with children who have different learning styles and needs. Some members of our team hold certifications in special educational needs, which means they have the knowledge and preparation required to understand and support campers with ADHD. These qualifications also allow us to comply with the governmental certifications required for camps working with children who may need additional support.

However, what truly defines our approach goes beyond certifications. Our counselors are trained to observe, listen, and adapt. Every child is different, and our team works carefully to understand what helps each camper feel comfortable, motivated, and confident. Campers with ADHD participate in the same activities as everyone else, while counselors naturally adjust guidance, communication, and expectations so that every child can succeed and enjoy the experience.

Structure, activity, and positive energy

Children with ADHD often respond very well to environments that combine structure with movement and engagement. Camp life naturally offers this balance.

Daily schedules provide a predictable rhythm, while multi-adventure activities allow children to release energy in healthy and constructive ways. Sports, outdoor challenges, team games, and creative activities give campers many opportunities to stay active while learning cooperation and self-confidence.

Our counselors guide these moments carefully, helping children focus on the experience while encouraging positive behavior, teamwork, and self-expression. For many campers with ADHD, this environment becomes a place where they feel capable, included, and proud of what they achieve.

Medication management with care and precision

For some children with ADHD, medication is an important part of their daily routine. We understand how important it is for families to feel confident that these instructions will be followed carefully.

Before camp begins, families complete a medical authorization form that details the medication their child needs, including dosage and schedule.

Our designated health coordinator is responsible for administering medication according to the exact instructions provided by families. Every dose is given at the appropriate time and recorded carefully, ensuring that children remain safe and consistent with their treatment.

This process allows campers to focus fully on enjoying their experience while families can feel reassured that their child’s health needs are being managed responsibly.

Open and continuous communication with families

Trust and communication are essential when supporting campers with ADHD. At My Spanish Camps, we maintain close communication with families before and during the program. Parents can share important information about their child’s routines, preferences, or strategies that help them feel comfortable and focused.

This collaboration allows our team to better understand each camper and provide the most supportive environment possible. If any situation arises during the program, families are informed promptly and clearly. Our goal is always to work together so that children feel supported both by their camp community and by the trust of their families.

A place where every child can thrive

Summer camp can be a powerful experience for children with ADHD. The combination of adventure, social interaction, outdoor activities, and supportive guidance often helps them discover new strengths and build confidence.

At My Spanish Camps, we are proud to create an environment where children from different backgrounds and with different needs come together in a respectful, multicultural community.

Here, campers are encouraged to be themselves, to try new things, and to discover just how capable they are. If you want to give them the opportunity to experience a summer full of adventure, you can register here.
